In today’s consumer market, buyers want appeal and comfort — it’s that easy. Car buyers look past their needs and focus on their wants. Well, in Grasso’s Garage this week, an $80K base price seven-passenger people mover, ready for the long haul but certainly in style, is just the ticket.

Our 2025 Toyota Sequoia 1794 Hybrid tester got a lot of attention thanks to the exterior, while the interior more than satisfied passengers. The boxy exterior provided great aesthetics while still demonstrating its big and brawny self to onlookers.

Don’t forget its off-road ability, though, with the 1794 edition a shining light for the Toyota brand. Features include auto-leveling LED headlights, multi-link suspension, 4WDemand part-time electronically controlled transfer case and auto limited slip differential, just to name a few.

Powering the 2025 Toyota Sequoia is the infamous i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V-6 hybrid engine with dual overhead cam and Dual VVT-i electric motor, producing 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. Our tester achieved 21 mpg; anything over 20 mpg in today’s market for a hybrid is the norm. This monster on 4-wheels topping 20 mpg is significantly better than earlier generations.

On the inside, it’s all comfort and typical Toyota style. Its rugged interior brings out the best in appearances while still maintaining its comfort and usability. Our tester featured a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well as a JBL 14-speaker stereo system and 12.3-inch driver instrument cluster. These features, in addition to squishy leather seats, were perfect for our week-long test to Connecticut for camping and family fun.

The Toyota Sequoia is the sister vehicle to the Lexus LX700h we recently tested, without the Lexus upper finishes and logo.

Toyota can seemingly do no wrong with its ever popular fleet of vehicles with nicely upgraded models, and the Sequoia is no exception. It fits perfectly in the fleet, does exactly what it is designed for, and its long history of success just confirms that people movers are here to stay and luxury-comfort is the new normal for consumers in this market, regardless of price.
