DeSantis creates a Hulk Hogan holiday in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. — Hulk Hogan may be gone, but Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to make sure the late WWE hall of famer is not forgotten.
To honor the life and legacy of Tampa Bay’s most famous celebrity, DeSantis has declared Aug. 1 as “Hulk Hogan Day in Florida.”
On Friday, flags for the Unites States and for Florida will be “flown at half-staff at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, and at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Pinellas County from sunrise to sunset.”
Hogan, born Terry Bollea, grew up in Tampa and spent most of his life in the Tampa Bay region. On July 24, he died at age 71 after collapsing at home in Clearwater Beach.
Records listed his cause of death as a heart attack, “a consequence of atrial fibrillation and leukemia.”
“Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice, first in 2005 and again in 2020 as a member of the New World Order,“ DeSantis said in a memorandum published Thursday. ”His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the ‘Hulkster’ was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s as well as today. He was a true Floridian through and through.”
