Justin Timberlake has taken legal action in a bid to block the release of body camera footage taken during his 2024 arrest.

The 45-year-old pop star was driving in Sag Harbor, New York in June 2024 when his car was pulled over by police after allegedly running a stop sign and swerving between lanes and he later pleaded guilty to a traffic violation and driving while ability impaired - now Timberlake's lawyers have moved to prevent video taken during his arrest from being made public.

According to New York Post column PageSix, legal papers have been filed in Sag Harbor in a bid to stop the footage being released following Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

The publication reports the paperwork states the footage shows the singer "in an acutely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement" adding the film captured "intimate details" of Timberlake's "physical appearance, demeanor, speech, and conduct".

PageSix reports Timberlake's lawyer Michael Del Piano claimed releasing the footage would cause "severe and irreparable harm" to the singer's "personal and professional reputation" and subject him to "public ridicule and harassment".

The attorney added: "[There is] no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government ... disclosure of this footage would constitute an unwarranted invasion [of Timberlake's privacy]."

After entering his guilty pleas, Timberlake was ordered to perform 25 to 40 hours of community service and his New York driving licence was suspended for 90 days. He was also required to pay a $500 fine and a $260 surcharge.

After the case came to an end, Timberlake urged others to learn from his mistakes. Speaking to the press outside the New York court, the pop star said: "What I'd like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you've had one drink, don't get behind the wheel of a car.

"There are so many alternatives. Call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps, take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but I am hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake."

Timberlake had previously claimed to have only consumed one alcoholic drink prior to his arrest and during a hearing for the case, the singer's lawyer Ed Burke told the court the star was not drunk at the time of his arrest.

He said: "The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for DWI."
