SAN DIEGO — Grammy- and Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop, a San Diego native, on Friday announced that will launch his farewell tour in March. The 14-city trek will conclude its U.S. leg with a concert next summer in his hometown, followed by concerts in Dublin and London. He has not toured since prior to the 2020 pandemic shutdown.
The tour opens March 13 in Phoenix. The San Diego concert will take place Aug. 21 at downtown’s Balboa Theater. David Wilcox will be the opening act for all dates on the tour. An announcement of more shows and cities is pending.
Bishop’s final tour follows the recent release of the 50th anniversary of his 1976 debut album, “Careless,” which contained his two breakthrough hits “Save It for a Rainy Day” and “On and On.” The album featured guest performances by Art Garfunkel, Chaka Khan and Eric Clapton, a longtime Bishop friend and collaborator.
Bishop, 74, has kept a low profile in recent years, in part because of health issues. His memoir was released in 2022.
Tickets for Bishop’s farewell tour, including his Balboa Theater concert, are on sale at Ticketmaster. A list of all the tour dates is online at stephenbishop.com/tour.
