Q: What percentage of my diet should come from each macronutrient?

A: Macronutrients — carbohydrates, proteins and fats — are the building blocks of a healthy diet. The right balance can improve energy and support muscle growth, as well as overall wellness.

Health experts recommend the following daily macronutrient distribution for adults

These ranges allow for flexibility based on individual goals and lifestyle. Carbohydrates provide quick energy and fuel the brain. Protein is essential for muscle repair and hormone production. Healthy fats support the brain, hormone balance, and nutrient absorption.

For someone consuming 2,000 calories a day, this is about 225-325 grams (g) of carbs, 50-175g of protein, and 44-78g of fat.

Your ideal macro ratio depends on your activity level, fitness goals, and dietary needs. For example, athletes or those building muscle may aim for higher protein, while those on a low-carb or ketogenic diet will favor fats.
