Trump lashes out at Bill Maher in Valentine's Day message

President Donald Trump spent part of his Valentine’s Day composing a very lengthy social media post attacking comedian Bill Maher.

Among the president’s grievances was the fact he invited the HBO “Real Time” host to the White House for dinner last April, yet Maher has continued mocking him on his Friday night show.

“Sometime in life you waste time!” Trump wrote in his nearly 500-word Truth Social rant late Saturday morning.

He recalled the pair’s mutual friend, musician Kid Rock, helping coordinate the meeting. According to Trump, Maher’s demeanor wasn’t what he expected when Emmy-winning funnyman entered the Oval Office.

“He was extremely nervous, had ZERO confidence in himself and, to soothe his nerves, immediately, within seconds, asked for a vodka tonic,’” Trump claimed.

The president said Maher confessed to him that he was nervous about their encounter, which Trump found “somewhat endearing” at the time.

“We had a great dinner, it was quick, easy, and he seemed to be a nice guy,” Trump added. “For his first show after our dinner, he was very respectful about our meeting. … But then I noticed his show started to devolve into the same old story — very boring, ANTI TRUMP.”

The president then typed a long list of his own purported achievements and alleged that a snide remark Maher made about him on Friday was the result of a joke going over the veteran comic’s head.

” After explaining what a DISASTER Canadian ‘leaders’ are to deal with, how Canada has ‘ripped off’ the United States for years on TRADE … I jokingly [said] that, ‘The first thing China will do is terminate ALL ice hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup,'” Trump said. “Well, (Maher) went on and on about the hockey statement, like ‘What kind of a person would say such a foolish thing as this,’ as though I were being serious when I said it.”

Even as Trump conceded that Maher is “slightly more talented” than other TV hosts who poke fun at him, he accused the comic of suffering from a “severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Maher said after his 2025 dinner with Trump that he too found himself dining with a man different than the one he expected to meet, describing the president as “self-aware” and “measured.”

“A crazy person doesn’t live in the White House,” Maher claimed. “A person who plays a crazy person on TV a lot lives there.”
