Trump's second Kansas rally canceled amid high-stakes Senate race, GOP says

President Donald Trump will no longer hold a rally in Salina on Saturday, the chair of the Kansas Republican Party confirmed Thursday.
Kansas GOP Chair Danedri Herbert said in a phone call that Trump’s rally, his second visit to the state this year, was canceled. She said she heard the news from the Republican National Committee.
“That’s all they told me that it was canceled and we’d get more information,” Herbert said. “They are going to do a series of tele-rallies but I don’t have any information about those.”
An RNC spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The cancellation was first announced by Pieter Miller, executive director of the Salina Airport Authority, according to local news reports. The event was set to be held at the Salina Regional Airport.
The scheduled rally came as national Republicans have descended on Kansas in recent weeks to mobilize support for U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall. The race has become an unlikely battleground ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
Trump rallied in Sedgwick County last week on behalf of Marshall, who’s facing stiff competition from the Democratic nominee, Johnson County megachurch pastor Adam Hamilton.
Vice President JD Vance made his second trip of the cycle to Kansas on Monday, stumping for Marshall and GOP governor nominee Ty Masterson at a manufacturing facility in Topeka.
Herbert said the decision to call off Trump’s appearance has at least one upside.
“Now they definitely have time to go vote on Saturday when the polls are open,” she said.
