Mets, infielder Jorge Polanco agree to 2-year, $40 million deal

NEW YORK — The New York Mets are back on the board.
After losing Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles and Edwin Diaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Winter Meetings, the Mets have inked infielder Jorge Polanco to a two-year, $40 million deal, according to multiple reports.
Polanco spent last season with the Seattle Mariners, where he registered a breakout campaign. The switch-hitter slashed .265/.326/.495 with 26 homers and 78 RBI.
The plan for the 32-year-old Polanco is for him to play first base and DH.
It remains to be seen how David Stearns fills the rest of the holes in his team. Polanco joins Marcus Semien as the other notable position player acquisition this offseason and Devin Williams as their second free agency signing.
Still, the Mets will have a very different look next season without Brandon Nimmo, Alonso and Diaz.
